A draw looks the most likely outcome despite Kent’s seam bowlers performing impressively on day two of the club“s final warm-up game against Loughborough MCCU at Canterbury.

A day one run-fest included centuries for skipper Rob Key (pictured), wicketkeeper Geraint Jones and batsman of the year Martin van Jaarsveld. This brought about an overnight declaration, as Kent reached 504-7, and gave the bowlers a chance to shine.

Simon Cook, who recently signed a contract extension, enjoyed the early sun-bathed St Lawrence conditions. He ripped out the students top two within his opening two overs. Soon after Matt Coles got in on the act. He and Phil Edwards picked up two wickets each as the visitors were dismissed for 259; David Murphy top scoring with 76.

Kent then reached 10 for no wicket in their second innings to lead by 255 runs going into the final day.
