Kent League Round-Up: Lordswood top Premier Division

The Premier Division of the Kent Cricket League is proving to be very competitive this season, with another change at the top of the table, Lordswood Cricket Club, captained by former Scottish international, Calum Macleod, establishing a three point lead over Tunbridge Wells, who lost their unbeaten record at the weekend.


The Kent Spitfires will welcome Middlesex to ‘Fortress Canterbury’ in a floodlit, Friday night T20 match on 23 June.

Lordswood, enjoyed a big win away at Sevenoaks Vine, whilst Wells, faltered at home to Minster (Sheppey). There were wins for Blackheath over Bexley, Hayes, at home to Holmesdale, and Sandwich, entertaining St Lawrence and Highland Court.

MacLeod scored 73, and former Kent Second Eleven player, Joe Gordon 54, in Lordswoods 278 for 7 from 45 overs, Andrew Reid-Dick 3 for 50. After a short rain break, Vine were set a Duckworth-Lewis target of 289, but could only reach 217 for 7, to give the visitors a 71 run victory, despite an innings of 67, from Kent batter, Ben Compton, Jack Laraman 3 for 33.

Disappointment for previous leaders, Tunbridge Wells, as they lost by seven wickets, former Kent batter, James Hockley, scoring 84 with 11 fours, and Essex player, Aron Nijjar 56, in Minster’s 215 for 3 winning target, after the home side had reached 214 for 8, from their 50 overs, Hockley and Nijjar, picking up two wickets apiece, along with Dan Masters.

Bexley were bundled out for just 145, in 35 overs, at the Rectory Field, against Blackheath, Shaun Evans 41, Matt Golding 3 for 19. Golding was then 39 not out, as his side eased to victory, 146 for 5 in 26.2 overs.

Bottom of the table, Holmesdale, were shot out for just 98,on their visit to Hayes, who won by eight wickets. Ollie Chaplin 23 for the visitors, whose innings was destroyed by Will MacVicar 5 for 35, in an excellent bowling spell. Kent Second Eleven player, Gareth Severin 43 for the home side in their winning 99 for 2. Kent Academy student, Will Harby 2 for 37.

There was a massive 118 run victory, for Sandwich, at home to St Lawrence, their 276 for 4 proving far too many runs for the visitors, 165 all out. In their win, Tom Burnap 68 not out, James Bazley 55 not out, in an unbroken 128 run partnership, Zak Fagg 64. Bazley then took 4 for 19, as the visitors crumbled, Oliver Curtiss 61 not out.

Bickley Park have a 26 point lead, at the top of the Championship Division, ahead of Bromley and Canterbury. They were four wicket winners, away at Beckenham, chasing down 208 for 6 in 44.2 overs after the home side made 207 for 8. For Park, Ranjit Singh scored 50, Elliott Hooper 40, Johann Malcolm 4 for 58. Alex Senn scored 69 for the home side. Jason Benn 3 for 54, Hooper 3 for 23.

At Polo Farm, Canterbury were 84 run winners over Bromley, who were bowled out for 93, replying to the home sides 177 for 9. Billy Amouche 50, Isaac Dilkes, 44, Marcus Lilley 5 for 28. Syan Bulathsinhala took 4 for 18, and Euan Munday 3 for 21, as the visitors slumped to their low total.

After Whitstable were all out for 178, Stuart Drakeley 37, Amrit Ryatt 3 for 36, Kent Academy student, Ekansh Singh 2 for 20, hosts, Dartford won by six wickets 182 for 4, John Smyth 51, Scott McKechnie 68, Liam Tegg 2 for 14.

OC CUACO, were well beaten by 55 runs, when they visited Linden Park,  all out 178, Jacob Pienaar 42, Atif Khan 4 for 31, replying to the homes sides 233 for 9, Khan 66, Justin MacVicar 53, Chris Webster 4 for 51.

There was a century maker on each side when The Mote played Folkestone, the home side coming out on top by five wickets. They chased down their 255 for 5 winning target in 48.1 overs after the visitors made 254 for 7, Thomas Harvey scored 118 not out, with 12 fours, for the Maidstone based team, Lewis Bedwell 48. Shahab Sheik 3 for 48. The unlucky three-figure batter, Eknoor Singh 120 with 12 fours and a six, two wickets apiece for Fergie Conway, Matt Sadler and Dyland De Villiers.
