Kent lose second eleven Trophy tie to Sussex

KENT“S second eleven return to Championship action tomorrow, after defeat in today“s Trophy match with Sussex at Canterbury. The second team suffered an eight-wicket defeat and play the same opponents in a three-day match, running from Wednesday until Friday.

After being put into bat, Kent scored 269 for nine from their 50 overs. All-rounder Matt Coles led the way with a quick-fire 77. He smashed 11 boundaries and two big sixes in a 44-ball knock. Fellow all-rounder James Goodman (pictured) weighed-in with 53, opener James Hockley scored 44 and Alex Blake 31.

Sadly it wasn“t enough and Sussex reached their victory target for the loss of just two wickets. They scored 273 for two with promising top-order bat, Michael Thornley, finished unbeaten on 104. He received good support from Rory Hamilton-Brown (84) and Joe Gatting 42. Matt Coles and Warren Lee took the wickets for Kent.

The two sides play again tomorrow in the Second Eleven Championship. The three-day game is being played at the St Lawrence Ground. Everyone is welcome. Please show your support for some potential stars of the future.
