KENT tied with Warwickshire under the Duckworth/Lewis method as both sides crashed out of the Friends Provident Trophy at Edgbaston. The Spitfires went into the game with a slim chance of making the quarter-finals, but needed to win and dramatically improve their net run rate to reach the knockout stages.

Put into bat on a damp wicket, Joe Denly’s limited-overs personal best of 115, and 50 from James Hockley, helped the visitors to 265 all out from 49.2 overs.

Needing to win to guarantee their place in the last eight, the Bears reached 241 for six in the 47th over when play was abandoned by rain.

The D/L method declared the match a tie with both sides earning a point each. That was enough for the home side to draw level with Middlesex Panthers, but Shaun Udal“s side went through to the quarter-finals by virtue of having won more games.

The draw for the quarter-finals is as follows:
Gloucestershire Gladiators v Nottinghamshire Outlaws
Hampshire Hawks v Middlesex Panthers
Lancashire Lightning v Essex Eagles
Somerset Sabres v Sussex Sharks
