Kent County Cricket Club has today confirmed that Bellway Plc will be its housing partner for the upcoming ground redevelopment project.

Bellway were named major housebuilder of the year in 2009 and will design and build the new dwellings at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. The redevelopment also includes a hotel, conference facilities, a health and fitness centre, hospitality boxes, stand refurbishment, floodlights and retail units.

“We are pleased to have concluded an agreement with our housing partner for the housing element of the redevelopment project. Bellway are a high quality developer and have a first class record of delivering outstanding developments.” says Kent“s acting chief executive officer Jamie Clifford. “We are looking forward to working closely with them as we create a ground of which we can all be proud.”

Jason Green, Managing Director, Bellway (South East Division) added: “We are delighted to be working with Kent County Cricket Club. The partnership will allow us to continue to develop a range of high-quality homes for people in the Canterbury area. The St Lawrence Ground is an iconic venue and presents a wonderful development opportunity.”

The club will be submitting a planning application to Canterbury City Council that seeks to amend the scheme for the Bat and Ball site shortly. This will see a reduction in the number of housing units within the development and a reconfiguration from flats to houses.
