Kent Spitfires outgun Middlesex in home match thriller

Kent 115-9 beat Middlesex 106-7 by nine runs

The Spitfires’ first home match under the impressive new floodlights at the St Lawrence Ground was a final over thriller. Following the captains’ dramatic helicopter arrival, the coin toss was held, with Middlesex winning and electing to bat second.

The Spitfires got off to a poor start, making 21 for 6, before Geraint Jones (27) and James Tredwell (34 not out) turned the screw. With the home crowd behind them, the Spitfires eventually made 115-9, leaving the Panthers chasing a low score.

The Panthers looked to be in contention following a steady start, but couldn’t sustain their momentum. Steven Crook’s unbeaten 23 gave Middlesex a chance going into the final over, which had the home crowd on the edge of their seats. Middlesex were able to make only 106-7, as Azhar Mahmood took 3-14 and Tredwell 2-14; securing the Spitfires’ third successive Friends Life t20 win and putting them in fourth position within the South Group table.
