Kent Spitfires Squad to face Sussex Sharks named

Thursday 19th June 2014

Men’s First Team

Jimmy Adams, Kent Cricket Head Coach, has named an expanded squad in preparation for the Kent Spitfires' clash with the Sussex Sharks on Friday night. Added to the 13, who tied with Glamorgan in Cardiff last week, is young fast bowler Charlie Hartley.

The Welsh result left the Spitfires with a played six, won three, lost two and one tie record, something the coach is looking to improve. "We fought well to get into a winning position in Cardiff and should have crossed the line for the win. The lads are playing confident cricket and we hope to continue playing well against Sussex."

The Spitfires had the better of the 2013 encounters with the Sharks, winning both home and away. In the equivalent match Kent managed to score a respectable 173/3 in their allotted overs, key contributors being Darren Stevens 67* and Fabian Cowdrey with 40. The bowlers then managed to keep the Sharks contained, restricting them to 164/6 to record a nine run victory. In a very consistent display the most notable bowling contributor was overseas signing Vernon Philander with 1/26 from his four overs. In the final game of the T20 season a young Kent team recorded a comprehensive victory. Both Matt Coles and Adam Riley’s four overs went for only 14 runs, with Coles capturing three wickets and Riley one. Chasing a modest 113 the batting of Coles, 40, and Fabian Cowdrey 28* spearhead a dominate performance. They chased down the total in 13.1 overs for the loss of only two wickets.

Overall the head to head record is: played 16, Kent Spitfires nine wins, six losses, one no result and two abandoned matches.
