Kent trio celebrate T20 series win in South Africa

Kent’s Tammy Beaumont hit a brisk 21 not out to help England clinch a 2-1 T20 series win against South Africa in Johannesburg.

County colleague Tash Farrant (1-21) marked her international comeback with a wicket in her first over as she combined with Anya Shrubsole (2-28) to reduce the hosts to 6-3.

A fine partnership between Lizelle Lee (69*) and skipper Mignon du Preez (39) helped South Africa to post 131-4.

In reply, Amy Jones smashed 14 off the first over to get England ahead of the run rate and player of the series Sarah Taylor hit her third successive 50 to put the tourists in control.

Tammy Beaumont, who moved to the middle order, hit a fine cover drive and reverse sweep for boundaries as well as a booming six to score 21 not out off 16 balls to help see England home.

After a 2-1 ODI series win, the focus turns to next month’s ICC World T20.

Speaking after the win, Kent and England skipper Charlotte Edwards said: “Full credit to South Africa but we’re pleased to come away with a 2-1 win. We have some areas to work on, we haven’t bowled or fielded well enough in this series.

“We go home for two weeks now and we have two warm-up games before the World T20 in India."
