Kent v Loughborough MCCU: Thomas and Denly take three wickets each on day two

Kent's bowlers got a good workout on day two of the University match v Loughborough MCCU.

Ivan Thomas (3/59) continued his fine pre-season form and Joe Denly's leg spin broke some key partnerships as the students fought back to gain a slender lead at stumps.

Centuries from Canadian batsman Nitish Kumar and wicketkeeper Michael Burgess included some fluent strokeplay on a flat Canterbury wicket.

Kumar (119) put on 110 with Mark Best (45) for the third wicket in the morning session before Denly trapped Best and Prowse LBW.

Mitch Claydon removed the 20-year-old Kumar, who has played 16 ODIs, after lunch thanks to a fine catch by Matt Coles before Ivan Thomas and Coles returned to claim their second scalp of the innings.

Thomas dismissed Le Breton LBW beforeColes found the edge of Sam Grant, caught behind by Sam Billings.

Burgess reached three figures in the evening session, ably supported by Bobby Gamble's 53.

Joe Denly bowled a tidy 31-over spell of leg spin including eight maidens, bowling Burgess shortly before Loughborough declared their innings.

Kent reached 11-0 at stumps after three overs and are set to resume at 11am tomorrow (free entry and parking).
