FORMER Kent favourite Paul Nixon returned to his old St Lawrence stomping ground to frustrate his old team-mates on the final morning of this last home four-day game of the summer.
By Friday“s lunch interval Nixon, who left Kent in 2002 after three years with the club, had reached 82 not out while Matt Boyce kept him company with an unbeaten 98 as the pair posted 191 without loss after 75 overs.
That represented Leicestershire“s best opening stand of the summer, beating 127 by Boyce and Tom New against Gloucestershire in Bristol back in May.
Home skipper Rob Key used five bowlers in the session, including spin from James Tredwell, Martin van Jaarsveld and his own rarely-seen ‘leg-spin“ in an abortive bid to break the partnership.
