Heino Kuhn hit a Kent record one-day century and Darren Stevens took a career-best 6-25 at The County Ground, Beckenham as the Spitfires earned their biggest ever one-day win against oldest rivals Surrey.

Joe Denly and Alex Blake hit fluent fifties as the Spitfires racked up a record-equalling 384-8 in 50 overs before dismissing the visitors for just 164 to record a 220-run win, the fourth in a row in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

After Surrey won the toss and invited Kent to bat, opener Daniel Bell-Drummond (48) and Heino Kuhn (117) added 93 for the opening wicket.

Joe Denly (78*) accelerated, reaching his 22nd List A 50 off 45 balls with the former South African Test batsman hitting the highest one-day score at the ground, his ninth one-day century surpassing Neil Dexter’s unbeaten 101 in 2008.

Kuhn passed 4,000 one-day runs before local boy Alex Blake put the foot down even further, blasting four successive Gareth Batty balls over the rope before falling, the left-hander caught for a blistering 59 off just 26 deliveries.

Stevens (19), Haggett (22*) and Qayyum (9*) chipped in vital late runs to equal the county’s highest ever one-day total of 384 for the loss of eight wickets, matching the score against Berkshire in 1994.

In reply, Mitch Claydon and Matt Henry each struck once in the first 10-over powerplay to put scoreboard pressure on Surrey.

Jason Roy (68) and Rory Burns (42) provided the main resistance before Qayyum got the prized wicket of Roy and then remove Ben Foakes before the evergreen Stevens completed a six-wicket haul as Surrey succumbed in the 31st over.
