Kuhn delighted with maiden Kent century

Heino Kuhn was delighted to score his first hundred in county cricket in Kent’s biggest ever one-day victory.

The former South Africa batsman scored 117 as Kent piled on 384-8 in a 220-run against oldest rivals Surrey at The County Ground, Beckenham.

Kent century-maker said: “The other lads make it really easy for me today, scoring their runs quickly they just allowed me to bat around them so to speak.

“I think our guys wanted it a little more today than the Surrey lads. We trained hard and we’ve taken that attitude out onto the field.

“We needed to adapt a little quicker than we did moving from the championship into white-ball cricket but we’re on a roll with four wins in a row now. The guys are happy and we’re looking to take this furher into our remaining games.”

He paid tribute to the supporting cast of Joe Denly (78) and local boy Alex Blake who hit a scintillating 59 off just 26 balls, including four successive sixes off Surrey spinner Gareth Batty.

Kent’s number 4 said: “Alex Blake came in and took the pressure off me with a quick 50. He asked is he should go for six sixes and I said sure, if the ball is there, go for it. Sadly he didn’t get all of it and holed out, but I’ve said all along we are going to prouduce performances as a squad, not just an 11, if we’re to win anything.

“As for Darren Stevens, I’m just pleased I’m on his side. He just loves the game so much and plays every day with a smile. He’s a very special cricketer.”
