Malinga Bandara to join Kent as the clubís overseas player

Kent County Cricket Club today announced that Sri Lankan Malinga Bandara (pictured)will join as overseas player, for the second half of the season.

The leg-spin bowler, who worked with team director Paul Farbrace when he was assistant coach of Sri Lanka, will arrive in mid to late May and will be ready for the first Friends Provident t20 match of the season. He will share overseas duties with Australian Stuart Clark, who is with Kent for the first half of the 2010 season.

Commenting on Bandara“s arrival, Farbrace said: “I“m absolutely delighted that such a high quality cricketer has chosen to join Kent. I“m thrilled at the prospect of him teaming up with James Tredwell and creating a high quality spin attack. Malinga is an experienced cricketer and will add great knowledge to our team; both on and off the field.”

The 30 year-old, who made his test debut in 1998, has taken 391 first-class wickets at an average of 24.96. He is also a useful lower-order batsman, with a first-class average of 19.97.
