Trent Bridge in Nottingham is the venue for Kent’s eighth One-Day Cup Final as the Kent Spitfires face Lancashire in the final of the 2022 Royal London Cup.

The Spitfires earned their final berth playing some outstanding cricket to win five matches in a row, including knockout ties, to reach the Final.

The Club has already stated that the squad for the Final will be selected from the players that have taken Kent to their first One-Day Cup Final in four years, and will be led by tournament Captain, Joe Denly, & Interim Head Coach for the tournament, Simon Cook.

Hamid Qadri’s off-spin leads the way for Kent with the ball, with 14 wickets at an economy of 5.90, followed by Nathan Gilchrist’s 11 seam wickets, with big contributions from Grant Stewart (9) & Joe Denly (8).

With bat in hand, Ollie Robinson has 491 runs to his name at a strike rate of 127.20, a rate bettered only by Darren Stevens’ 132.21, whose runs secured victory away at Hampshire in the Semi-Final.

Robinson’s 206* one matchday one is a new Club record for an individual List A innings, with Joey Evison’s 109 the other score to reach three figures, against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens.

Left-hander Ben Compton also has 380 runs at an average of 42.22 opening the batting.

Darren Stevens continued his Kentish farewell tour with an outrageous 84 off 65 balls to send Kent Spitfires to the Royal London Cup final.

He will round off his List A career with the county with potential for silverware after striking a six off his legs and then a driven four to take his side over the line.

Ollie Robinson’s 95 and Harry Finch’s 63 had set up Kent chasing down 310 before the 46-year-old marshalled his side to a three-wicket victory.


Opposition report

Lancashire finished second in Group B of the tournament, one place above Kent, after five wins, two defeats & one no result from their eight group matches.

Dane Vilas scored an important century to see the Red Rose into the Final of the Royal London Cup with victory over Sussex at Hove. The ‘keeper-batter made his return from injury against Kent Spitfires in Lancashire’s dramatic defeat at Canterbury, & so far has 172 runs in three innings.

115 from Steven Croft helped Lancashire past Nottinghamshire in their Quarter Final at Blackpool, & the batting all-rounder now has 313 runs at an average of 62.60. Opener Keaton Jennings has 318 runs at 45.42, with Lancashire’s top-scorer in the tournament, Luke Wells, on 339 runs at 37.66.

The right-arm seam duo of Liam Hurt & Danny Lamb have accounted for 13 wickets apiece, whilst Tom Bailey has 10 wickets at an average of 26.90 & New Zealand’s Will Williams has nine wickets at 20.11.
