Match Reports: Hampshire Second XI vs. Kent Second XI

With the start of the First Team’s T20 campaign firmly in sight, the Second XI faced Hampshire Second XI in two T20 matches at the Ageas Bowl on Monday.

Kent’s T20 Blast South African Overseas player, George Linde, was in fine form with the bat, leading up to the start of the competition for the Spitfires, against Gloucestershire, tomorrow (Wednesday), May 24, when he scored an unbeaten half century for the Second XI, in their five wicket victory over Hampshire Seconds.

In two double-header South Group T20  matches, at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton, the points were shared, the home side winning the second match by three wickets.

In the first match, Linde was exactly 50 not out, off 33 deliveries, with five fours and two sixes as he steered Kent Seconds to their 164 for 5 winning total, after the home side had made 163 for 7 from their 20 overs. Skipper, Marcus O’Riordan scored 57, with one six and eight fours, Liam Dawson 2 for 29. Dawson had top scored for the home side with 31, Jas Singh 3 for 38, Tom Hinley 2 for 24.

In the second game, when Linde was replaced by Academy scholar Barney Ford, Hampshire got their victory thanks to a brilliant innings of 81 by Toby Albert, off just 29 deliveries with seven sixes, and eight fours, in their winning score of 186 for 7, after Kent Seconds had posted 183 for 8, in their 20 overs, Alex Blake 49, Daniel Bell-Drummond 47, Mason Crane 3 for 21. Hampshire got their win in  16.3 overs, Kent trialist Hishaam Khan 3 for 29, Ford 2 for 36.

Kent Seconds are away to Essex, today Tuesday, May 23, at the Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford, and on Friday, May 26, they have another T20 South Group match at home to Middlesex at Polo Farm, Canterbury.

The matches against Hampshire gave some Kent players time out in the middle, in preparation for the start of the first team’s Vitality Blast competition on Wednesday 24 May, when Gloucestershire, will be visitors to The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
