An impressive half century by New Zealand batter, Gareth Severin, and some excellent bowling from trialist, Hishaam Khan, were the standout individual performances, in the Second X1’s eight run victory, over Middlesex Seconds, in their South Group T20 match, at Polo Farm, Canterbury.


A repeat of the 2021 Vitality Blast final takes place at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence when Somerset are the visitors to Canterbury to take on the Kent Spitfires this coming Tuesday evening, 30 May!

Severin, who plays for champions Hayes, in the Kent Cricket League, hit five fours and two sixes in his 56 run innings off 36 deliveries, in Kent’s 153 for 7 from their 20 overs. Skipper Marcus O’Riordan scored 37, with five boundaries, and Ben Compton 21. Ishaan Kaushal 2 for 27.

Middlesex looked in a strong position to win when Daniel Driscoll, 52, with four fours, and Josh de Caires 37, put on a 76 run partnership for the third wicket in 14.1 overs, but when both were out the rest of the batters were unable to reach their winning target, finishing on 145 for 6, after leaving themselves to score 13 runs off the last over, bowled by Khan, who finished with impressive figures of 3 for 24. Matt Quinn, back in action after injury, 2 for 27.

In a fine all-round performance by Kent Seconds, Jas Singh held on to three catches in the outfield.

Kent Second XI are in action again, next Tuesday, May 30, when they play Surrey Seconds, at New Malden. The match starts at 14:00.
