Match Report: Kent vs. Essex

Rain got the better of Kent’s three-day friendly against Essex, with play only going ahead for a couple of sessions on Day Two.

Michael Hogan took his first wicket in a Kent shirt following on from an excellent Matt Quinn delivery to clean bowl Nick Browne in Kent’s innings with the ball, which was followed up by a Jack Leaning half century as Kent & Essex’s friendly ended in a draw.

Right-armer Hogan, who arrived at Canterbury last week, dismissed Essex captain Tom Westley for a three-ball duck before Joey Evison had England’s Dan Lawrence caught behind for three & Grant Stewart sent Paul Walter back to the pavilion in similar fashion.

A pre-arranged declaration followed with Essex on 144/4 – with Sir Alastair Cook not out on 84.

Kent’s reply lasted 27 overs before rain ended the match entirely with no play possible on Day Three – Leaning’s 52 not out the pick of the batters, coming in 78 deliveries & including 11 fours.
