‘My Top Ten Kent Shirts’

As a Kent Cricket supporter for over 19 years, Mike Moyes has a proud collection of Kent playing shirts from over the years, including some, as he admits, “from before my time!”

“As you will see from my collection, my favourite format of the game is 50-overs; the Royal London Cup or old ‘Sunday League’ as it was back in the day.

“At these matches I’ve enjoyed full day out at the cricket with my Dad, a picnic, a few beers and hopefully a good result or two for Kent.

“Out of all of the shirts Kent have worn in my time supporting the Club, here is my Top Ten.”

10. 2009 NatWest Pro40 League & Friends Provident Trophy

“Samuari Sportswear came in after taking over from North Gear, and this was their first one-day shirt, in what is now 12 years of being the club’s kit manufacturer.

“A nice simple design, with the navy and red with red strips down the side.”

9. 2007 Twenty20 Cup

“I had to choose this simply because we won a trophy wearing this shirt!

“Manufactured by Danish firm North Gear, this will surely go down in the Club’s history as one of our most recognisable limited overs shirts.”

8. 2019-21 Vitality Blast

“This is a really nice shirt with the design of RADAR screens, after stations were positioned across the county during the Battle of Britain.

“It was also the first ever Kent Cricket shirt to have a crewneck collar.”

7. 2010-2011 Clydesdale Bank Pro40

“The one that got away for me: a lovely retro design based on the 1993 shirt.

“The only limited overs shirt I don’t have in my collection, so if anyone is willing to part with one, please get in touch with the Club!”

6. 2015/2016 NatWest T20 Blast

“A historical design to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

“It was a bit of a ‘marmite’ kit, especially as the playing trousers matched the ‘sunset’ look that this kit had, but it quickly became one of those kits that you need for any collection.”

5. 2002 Norwich Union League

“I only actually got my hands on this shirt a few years ago, but my first ever year watching Kent was in 2002, and this was our Norwich Union League shirt.

A nice bright blue with red as worn by Matthew Fleming and co when they finished fifth in Division One, and it was the first year of the yellow Kent Spitfires logo.”

4. 1993 AXA Equity & Law League

“Not much needs to be said about this shirt that has not been said over the years – a true classic.

“Voted Kent’s best replica shirt in a Club Twitter poll last year, the design was reproduced in 2010, heavily influenced Kent’s West Indies tour kit in 2017/18, and was re-released as a retro shirt last year.”

3. 2019-2021 Royal London One-Day Cup

“This is my favourite one-day shirt of the past few years. A great design with Spitfires over it, with a nice blue and navy to go with it.

“Hopefully we’ll get to see the lads play in this beauty again in person this year!”

2. 2020 Bob Willis Trophy

“In the same vein, sadly this was a shirt that wasn’t seen ‘live’ by supporters due to the COVID pandemic. This is the only red ball shirt on my list.

“A fantastic design to celebrate the Club’s 150th Birthday, in cream with the names of all 219 Capped Players in Kent’s history on in gold, from Lord Harris to Zak Crawley.

“This *just* misses out on top spot, however…”

1. 2012 Clydesdale Bank 40

“The winner that may surprise some, but my favourite Kent shirt of all time has to be our Clydesdale Bank 40 shirt from 2012.

“A simple design that incorporated the colours of the Club at the time; navy & sky blue with cherry red.

“Although we finished third in Group C that year, we had the likes of ‘Stevo’, Azhar Mahmood and Rob Key playing in this beauty!”
