Nash and Bell-Drummond pile on the runs in Queensland

Kent’s Brendan Nash top-scored and Daniel Bell-Drummond continued his fine form as Northern Suburbs piled on the runs in the Queensland First Grade.

DBD opened the batting at the Ian Healy Oval and made a fluent 85 and putting on 107 for the first wicket before being third out as visitors Toombul reduced Norths to 132-3.

Former West Indies batsman Nash followed him to the crease and scored 92, adding 127 runs with James Hopes for the fourth wicket.

Second-placed Norths were eventually all out 392 off 98 overs with third-placed Toombul to chase the total on day two next Saturday.

Elsewhere in Queensland,Ivan Thomas took another wicket for Sunshine Coast as they claimed a first-innings lead at Ipswich/Logan.

Kent vice-captain Sam Northeast won the toss for the Scorchers and chose to field.

The Scorchers skipper’s side bowled out the hosts for 133 off 54 overs with Thomas claiming a wicket for 17 runs and five maidens in 14 tidy overs.

In reply, Northeast scored 22 as his side passed Ipswich’s total with six wickets to spare.

Adam Ball’s fourth-placed Redlands Tigers took on Valley DCC who were dismissed for 224 in 65.2 overs after winning the toss.

The 21-year-old Kent all-rounder took a wicket and two catches and bowled 11 overs for 56 runs.

The Tigers ended the first day on 55 for two in reply.
