Sam Northeast scored an unbeaten century alongside 50s for Daniel Bell-Drummond and Alex Blake as Kent’s batsmen continued their preparation for the 2016 Specsavers County Championship.

On the first day of a two-day friendly against Division One side Durham, Bell-Drummond found the boundary twelve times in a patient 161-ball innings at the top of the order.

After opening partner Sean Dickson (16) and Fabian Cowdrey (2) were caught in the slips, the England Lions opener’s 151-run stand with Northeast either side of lunch added momentum in the afternoon sunshine after a slow start in the morning session.

Northeast retired at tea after facing 152 balls in his three-hour stint.

Alex Blake’s entertaining 65 either side of tea included eleven boundaries as the master blaster sought to press his red-ball credentials before Pringle beat him in the flight to bowl him in the 98th ball of his stay.

Adam Rouse joined him at the crease with a watchful 27 before Randhawa trapped him LBW.

Calum Haggett and Matt Coles added 17 as Kent closed on 324-6 before stumps with day two set to start at 11am.

Entry and parking is free with food and drink served in the Lime Tree Café.
