O’Riordan scores big hundred for Second XI against Surrey

Despite losing their Second XI Championship match in three days, away to Surrey Second XI at Guildford, by an innings and 122 runs, there were still some impressive individual performances from some Kent Second XI players, including a century from captain, Marcus O’Riordan.

Surrey scored a massive 652 for 7 declared, in their first innings, with three centurions, Arjun Gill, 196, with 23 fours, and two sixes, Josh Blake, 113 which included 15 boundaries, and Ben Geddes with 15 fours, in an innings of 103. Arafat Bhuiyan 3 for 130, trialist, Adam Sylvester, who previously played for Derbyshire Seconds, 2 for 68.

In their first innings, Kent Second XI were all out for 297, a deficit of 359, but O’Riordan hit a defiant century, 132 off 128 deliveries, with two sixes and 23 fours, and received excellent support from Kent Academy Scholar, Ben Dawkins, who had 11 boundaries, in an innings of 78. Matt Dunn 5 for 50.

Following on, Kent were all out in their second innings for 237, trialist Ross Richardson making 82, with three sixes and eight fours, and there was a cameo innings from bowler, Jas Singh, with a half century 50,  with 40 of the runs coming from boundaries. Some top class bowling for Surrey Seconds from Tommy Ealham, who took an impressive 7 for 71.

Kent’s Second XI have another four-day Championship match, starting on Tuesday, May 14, against Sussex Second XI, at The County Ground, Beckenham. Entry is free to Members and supporters.
