Match abandoned due to rain

Persistent heavy rain saw the first match of the one-day international series between South Africa and England abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The outfield at the Wanderers was left sodden after an abnormally high level of rain.

The abandonment means that Kent spinner James Tredwell must wait for his debut.

All eyes now switch to Centurion, which hosts the second match on Sunday, a game scheduled to start at 0800. Tredwell“s Kent team-mate, Joe Denly (pictured), will also hope to feature at the weekend.
