Sam Billings took a catch and Adam Riley bowled eight overs for the MCC as Yorkshire had the upper hand on day one of the Champion County clash in Abu Dhabi.

The LV= County Championship winners, who have six men in England’s Test tour party, dismissed the MCC for 221 after national skipper Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to bat.

Former England seamer Ryan Sidebottom struck twice in his first two overs with the pink ball to remove Nick Compton (0) and Cook (3) and reduce the invitational side to seven for two.

Michael Carberry (36), James Hildreth (89) and Daryl Mitchell (54) rebuilt the innings before the county champions took four wickets for 11 runs with a brace for England Lion Jack Brooks and debutant Will Rhodes.

The Kent and England Lions duo both fell to international colleagues: Billings lasted six balls without scoring before he was bowled by Brooks and Riley was trapped LBW by fellow spinner Adil Rashid for 3 off 21 balls.

In reply, another Yorkshire Lion Adam Lyth celebrated his England Test call-up with 53 not out after losing colleagues Alex Lees and Jack Leaning to close on 82-2 at stumps.

Billings took a smart catch to remove fellow Lion Lees off the bowling of Surrey paceman Matthew Dunn, another England Lion.

Riley's eight-over spell included a maiden and cost just 23 runs with fellow spinner Zafar Ansari dismissing Leaning.
