Sandwich Town win Kent Indoor Cricket title
Tuesday 3rd February 2015
Sandwich Town were crowned county champions at the Ames Levett Sports Centre on Sunday,
The Thanet league winners lifted the title after defeating Newington of Swale, Betteshanger from the Dover league and Pharon League winners Canterbury in the final.
It was a tense, low-scoring final with Sandwich 20-2 after six overs before Alec Smith (31) and Daniel Evans (25) pushed the total up to 83 off 12 overs.
In reply, man-of-the-match Smith bowled Canterbury skipper Justin MacVicar in the second over on the way to clinching a 19-run win.
The Kent winners, featuring Kent and England youth wicketkeeper Ryan Davies, will now face at home to Sussex champions in a play-off at the Ames Levett Sports Centre at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
Sandwich take on Preston Nomads CC at 11.30am on Sunday 8 February at the home of Kent Cricket.
The winners qualify for the regional finals at Canterbury on March 1 for a place in the national finals at Lord's on March 15.
Competition organiser Eric Banning thanked the Association of Cricket Officials and umpires Anthony Galt, Andy Cox, Phil Edwards and Ken Amos for their attendance.
