SEC Final: Leicestershire v Kent, Day One Match Report
Leicestershire Second XI battled hard to post 360 on the first day of the Second XI Championship final at Grace Road.
Kent had one over to bat before stumps and negotiated the over without scoring a run.
Nathan Hawkes top-scored for Leicestershire with 75 while Tom Wells (49*) and James Sykes (31) added 69 for the last wicket.
Will Jones (44) and Michael Thornely (16) put on 41 for the first wicket asLeicestershire moved to 72-1 in the opening session.
Theythen slipped to 96-4 as Jones, Lewis Hill (11) and Greg Smith (11) fell, Simon Cook (20-6-64-2) and Adam Ball (16-2-69-2) sharing the first four wickets.
Hawkes and Jigar Naik (24) put on 69 for the fifth wicket before the spinner was dismissed lbw to Fabian Cowdrey (13-1-41-1).
The all-rounder then joined forces with Taylor to positive effect by sharing 91 either side of tea before the left-hander was caught in the slips off Ivan Thomas (17-2-66-2) for 38 (54b, 5×4, 1×6).
Hawkes was trapped lbw to Calum Haggett (16.5-1-46-2) in the next over to leave Wells and Paul Dixey together with neither having scored a run.
Dixey and Nathan Buck fell to Thomas and Jack Laraman (6-1-18-1) respectively beforea last-wicket alliance.
Wells was left undefeated from 65 balls with five fours and a six while Sykes also struck five fours in his innings before being bowled by Haggett.
Nightwatchman Laraman then saw off Buck’s over, with Daniel Bell-Drummond not out at the other end.
