Trialist batter Ross Richardson scored a half century in both innings of Kent Second XI’s drawn Second XI Championship match with Nottinghamshire Seconds at The County Ground, Beckenham.

Set the unlikely winning target of 381 in 75 0vers, Kent Seconds were 200 for 5 off 60 overs, when the captains shook hands on the draw, after the first of the final 20 overs of the match to be bowled, Richardson was 65 not out, with five boundaries, and a six.

Another trialist, left-hand batter, Savin Perera, a product of the South Asian Cricket Academy, hit six fours, in a half century innings of 50, and Kent Academy student, Ekansh Singh made 42. Some excellent spin bowling for Notts from Fateh Singh, 4 for 72 in 24 overs.

In their first innings, the visitors scored 443 for 6 declared, with two centurians leading the way. Ben Martindale, 148 with 23 boundaries, and wicket-keeper Tom Moores, 125 not out, with six sixes and 12 fours. Freddie McCann 55. Kent Seconds then declared on 296 for 5, O’Riordan, then scoring 70, with nine boundaries and a six, Grant Stewart 50. Richardson, who also scored 57 and 46, in the Second Eleven victory over Essex, 58, with seven fours. He previously played for Buckinghamshire and Surrey Seconds, and is making an early impression with his batting.

With a lead of 147, Notts declared their second innings on 234 for 2, McCann 87, Tom Loton 83 not out.

There was an unusual dismissal in the match when Nottinghamshire’s Fateh Singh, was caught by Kent’s Jas Singh, and bowled by Academy youngster Ekansh Singh for 14, in his sides first innings.

Kent Seconds’ next match is a joint team-up with Essex Second XI, in a three-day friendly against the South Asian Cricket Academy, at Billericay Cricket Club, starting on Tuesday 23 April.
