Second XI defeated at Beckenham

Playing their first T20 match at The County Ground, Beckenham this season, Kent’s Second XI lost to Middlesex by six wickets in their South Section encounter.

The visitors chased down their 188 target with four deliveries to spare.

Kent Seconds totalled 187 for 8 from their 20 overs, after the innings had got off to a good start with young opening batter Tawanda Muyeye scoring 40 off 23 deliveries, with four boundaries and two sixes.

Harry Finch hit a half century (54) and Joe Gordon 26 in the home side’s innings. There was a fine spell of bowling for Middlesex, by Thilan Walallawita, who took 4 for 20 to deny Kent a bigger total.

Middlesex Seconds got their innings off to a shaky start with Hamid Qadri getting the early wicket of Sam Robson for 26, and then running out Max Holden for four runs.

An excellent 51 from Joshua de Caires, however, put the visitors on course for victory, and their skipper Robert White was undefeated on 34 not out. Middlesex needed just four runs off the last over.

Qadri took 1 for 21, Muyeye 1 for 18 and Elliot Hooper 1 for 24.
