Spinners thrive in 2nd XI defeat at Gloucestershire

Kent’s second XI lost a closely-fought contest at Lansdown against Gloucestershire.

The hosts’ first innings total of 304 made the difference – inspired by Ian Cockbain’s 107 not out and Tom Smith’s 52 to give Glos an 82-run lead after Kent scored 218.

Notable Kent performers included Adam Riley's 4 for 60 and in reply, 88 from Sean Dickson and Bexley wicketkeeper Matthew Stiddard's 51.

Kent fared better in the second innings with academy scholar Zak Crawley top-scoring with 59 and contributions from Adam Riley (43) and Sean Dickson (40) took Kent to 244.

Chasing 163 to win, academy scholar Hugh Bernard’s early breakthrough gave Kent hope and spin prospered as Imran Qayyum took three wickets and Adam Riley claimed another.

However, Gloucestershire’s experienced duo of Kieran Noema-Barnett (47 not out) and Tom Smith (26 not out) saw the hosts home.
