Spitfires lose low-scoring match to Glos

The spinners thrived as Gloucestershire won a low-scoring NatWest T20 Blast match by eight runs at The Spitfire Ground.

Spitfire Man of the Match Imran Qayyum took 2/19 in four overs to help Kent Spitfires restrict the visitors to 138 at Canterbury after Sam Northeast won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Fellow left-armer Tom Smith hit back and picked up the wickets of Joe Denly, Sam Billings and Jimmy Neesham as the Glos attack strangled Spitfires’ reply.

Daniel Bell-Drummond struck four successive boundaries off Thisara Perera before the Sri Lankan all-rounder trapped him LBW for 25.

The Westcountrymen varied their pace with great effect as a succession of Spitfires batsman holed out to fall eight runs short of the modest total as nobody was able to surpass the opener’s score.

Earlier, Jimmy Neesham and Mitch Claydon each picked up two wickets in what appeared to be a below-par score.
