Spitfires qualify for One-Day Cup quarter-final v Surrey on Thursday
Sunday 23rd August 2015
Kent Spitfires have reached a second limited-overs quarter-final in 2015 after a washout at Edgbaston secured fourth spot and a tie at Surrey next Thursday (27 August, 2pm start).
After topping the NatWest T20 Blast table, the Spitfires qualified on net run rate in the final round of games after finishing level with three other counties on eight points.
Back-to-back home wins against Sussex and Hampshire were followed by defeat to Lancashire which meant that Kent could not afford to lose in two tricky trips to the Midlands to finish the group stage.
Sam Billings hit a century and Matt Coles took a hat-trick as the Spitfires chased 336 to beat Group B winners Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge on Monday.
Kent needed to at least match the results of Warwickshire and Lancashire on Wednesday but the weather intervened at both counties to prevent the win they needed to snatch fourth spot.
The oldest rivalry in county cricket will resume with the Spitfires having done the NatWest T20 Blast double with wins at The County Ground, Beckenham and The Kia Oval.
