THE Kent Spitfires strengthened their hopes of winning the NatWest Pro40 competition with a four-wicket win over the previously unbeaten Derbyshire Phantoms at Chesterfield.

Phantoms skipper Chris Rogers hit an impressive 88 in his side’s total of 259-8. It looked a good score at the halfway stage but the Spitfires made light work of their difficult victory target – winning with ten balls to spare.

All-rounder Alex Blake led the way with his highest score for the Kent first-team, 80. He was well supported by Darren Stevens (52) and Azhar Mahmood (pictured – 51). The win moves Kent joint top of the table with seven points and sets them up nicely for their remaining league matches.

The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday evening against old rivals, Surrey Brown Caps at Canterbury. The game is a special one for young Kent fans. Juniors can gain entrance to the St Lawrence Ground for just £1. The game promises to be a real classic. It’s one that no true Kent fan will want to miss.
