Surrey v Kent – Day Four – The Oval
Wednesday 13th July 2011
Surrey 387 & 184 beat Kent 250 & 300 by 21 runs
Kent resumed day four on 270-8, needing 52 runs to win, but were able to add only 30 before they were all out for 300. Gareth Batty and Zafar Ansari took a wicket each during a tense 55 minutes at The Kia Oval, which saw Surrey beat Kent by 21 runs.
Rob Key and Robbie Joseph took 10 off the target of 52 additional runs in the first two overs. Key had also profited from four over-throws from Tom Maynard. That took Key to 150, and Kent still looked like they could be victorious. Key’s heroics led Kent to the brink of victory, but he was finally bowled for 162 by Zafar Ansari. 25 runs were needed when last man, Ashley Shaw joined Joseph. Shaw attempted a reverse sweep, only to be caught by Jason Roy off Batty fornought, giving Surrey their third championship win of the season.
