Fresh from his impressive bowling spell in the fifth Royal London One-Day Cup International, (10 overs, 2 maidens, 30 runs and two wickets) James Tredwell has been added to the Spitfires’ squad as they prepare to face South Group leader’s Hampshire in the NatWest T20 Blast competition.

Tredwell, as well as Fabian Cowdrey, are the two additions to the squad, Brendan Nash rested, that has so far defeated Somerset and Gloucestershire in their opening two games. ‘We have a very hectic time in front of us with three T20 Blast fixtures in seven day and a four day Championship fixture in the midst of this,’ stated Head Coach Jimmy Adams. ‘We wanted to strength the squad and give ourselves more options. Tredders is clearly one of the leading limited over bowlers in the country and Fabian has been getting in some good knocks for the seconds.’

Cowdrey scored 54 in yesterday’s Second XI Trophy match against The Unicorns at Long Marston Cricket Club and has been a regular contributor in their recent matches.

Hampshire has a slight lead in the history of T20 matches between the two Counties. The 17 encounters have resulted in them recording nine wins to Kent’s seven, with one tie. In the equivalent fixture last year, at the Ageas Bowl, the Spitfires got home by 8 runs. Daniel Bell-Drummond top scored with 27 with the next highest contributor being Sam Billing’s 26, Kent making 143. In reply Hampshire only managed 135/8 with the twin spin attack recording great results; Adam Riley, 4 overs, 21 runs, 1 wicket and James Tredwell, 3 overs, 12 runs and 1 wicket.

The match begins 6.30pm Thursday 5 June, at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton. It is live on Sky Sports 2.
