Tredwell misses out for England as Swann wins his fitness battle

Kent’s James Tredwell (pictured)missed out on a Test debut as spinner Graeme Swann passed a late fitness test to play in the opening match of the series between England and South Africa.

Tredwell was put on standby, to make his Test bow, at Centurion but Swann sufficiently recovered from a side strain to take his place.

Former Kent overseas player Morne Morkel plays for South Africa with Dale Steyn ruled out through injury.
