Kent's James Tredwell took two catches and a wicket as England lost to Pakistan in the final World Cup warm-up match in Sydney.

The Ashford-born spinner pouched two chances at second slip to dismiss both openers off Stuart Broad and James Anderson as Pakistan were reduced to 10-2 in reply to England's 250 for eight.

Tredwell was involved again as he removed Haris Sohail, who scooped the ball towards Gary Ballance who smartly caught at long-on.

England had their opponents in trouble at 78 for four in the 23rd over, but skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar Akmal responded with a stand of 133.

Although Umar fell for 65 from 66 balls, Misbah remained to aid victory in a tense finish under the SCG floodlights with 91 not out.

Joe Root’s smooth 85 was not enough to give England victory in their final World Cup warm-up as Pakistan chased 251 with four wickets and seven balls to spare.

In a repeat of the 1992 World Cup final, which Pakistan also won, Root’s innings and 57 from Yorkshire team-mate Gary Ballance lifted Eoin Morgan’s side to a respectable 250 for eight at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
