Trophies and Tribulations: New Kent book available next week

Tuesday 13th April 2010

Next week sees the publication of the first book to present Kent“s recent history from the players“ point of view. Trophies and Tribulations: Forty Years of Kent Cricket is the inside story of an era packed with highs, lows and controversies.

Trophies and Tribulations is an unauthorised account of the period from the Gillette Cup winning year of 1967 to the present day.

The authors are both respected writers on cricket. Clive Ellis, a former sports news editor on The Daily Telegraph, won the Cricket Society“s jubilee literary award for his biography of C. B. Fry. Mark Pennell, the Kent Messenger Group“s cricket correspondent from 1993 to 2008, is well known to many supporters and is a regular contributor to this site.

Mark Pennell said: “We got a brilliant response from all the players we spoke to and we can“t thank them enough for helping to make the book what we think is a valuable record of an extraordinary era for the club.”

Clive Ellis and Mark Pennell will be available to sign copies of Trophies and Tribulations on the first three days of the championship match against Yorkshire (April 21, 22 and 23) and also look forward to meeting supporters at the official launch on Thursday April 22 at the Rose Lane branch of Waterstone“s in Canterbury (7pm start).

Trophies and Tribulations will be available to purchase in the club shop and via the Kent CCC website. You can find more information about the book at www.greenwichpublishing.co.uk.
