Academy defeat MCC XI in one-dayer

Bradley Goldsack and Joe Gordon hit half-centuries and Ben Mills and Hugh Scott shared five wickets as a young Academy side defeated a MCC XI at Polo Farm.

All-rounder Louis Pickering took a wicket before smashing 23* off nine balls in a fluent stand with Sam Smith (46*) to seal a fine five-wicket win.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first with Under-17 left-armer Ben Mills removing both openers in a superb five-over spell of 2/21 with the new ball.

Tall seamer Pickering (1/37 off 12 overs) removed Cramp in the eighth over before the MCC rebuilt through former Kent scholar Marcus O’Riordan (66) and Ben Leale-Green (87).

Hugh Scott, playing on his home ground, claimed 3/49 in 10.5 overs before the visitors declared on 235-7 off 50.5 overs.

In reply, the Academy recovered from the early loss of Tunbridge Wells batsman Julian O’Riordan with a 73-run stand between Bradley Goldsack (50) and Isaac Dilkes (42).

Joe Gordon top-scored with 57 before Smith and Pickering saw the scholars home in 40.3 overs.
