Tredwell takes four as Derbyshire win 2nd XI friendly at King’s School

James Tredwell's four wickets were not enough to prevent a strong Derbyshire side winning the second XI friendly at King's School Canterbury.

The England spinner bowled a tidy spell of 4/31 off 11 overs after Kent were dismissed for 112 on the final morning.

Sean Dickson top-scored again but Wayne White, who took six wickets in the LV= County Championship at Canterbury last month and Greg Cork, son of ex-England seamer Dominic, prospered.

The pair took four wickets apiece despite resistance from Ryan Davies (19) and Adam Riley (17 not out) who survived 14 overs before Jonathan Clare took the last two wickets.

Chasing 144 to win, Dan Smith struck with the new ball to remove Ben Slater before the spin of Adam Riley and Tredwell was introduced.

Tredwell, 33, took four scalps before Derbyshire reached their target in the final session of a see-saw match.

Kent held a 31-run lead after the first innings with Sean Dickson's 145 and 50s for Fabian Cowdrey and Nick Selman inspiring a total of 352 for nine, with Ryan Davies retiring after suffering dizziness.

In reply, Mitch Claydon and Matt Hunn took four wickets each as the visitors scored 321 with half-centuries by Slater, Sam Arthurton and Tom Poynton.

Hugh Bernard celebrated signing his first professional contract with two wickets in each innings.
