Sunday 23rd August 2009

KENT Academy wicketkeeper Sam Billings has been selected to take part in a series of one-day 50 over matches against County second XI“s. The promising gloveman has been named in a 22-man squad and will go up to the National Cricket Centre in Loughborough on the 10th and 11th of September.

The schedule is as follows and performances in the following matches will be considered when selecting the England U19 squad for the Winter 2009/10 programme:

Monday 7th September v Leicestershire 2nd XI
Tuesday 8th September v Leicestershire 2nd XI
Wednesday 9th September v Leicestershire 2nd XI
Thursday 10th September v Nottinghamshire 2nd XI
Friday 11th September v Nottinghamshire 2nd XI

Commenting on Sam“s inclusion, Kent Academy Director, Phil Relf (pictured), said: “This selection gives the ECB under-19 management a good opportunity to see Sam play against good opposition. He has played a number of second team games for us in the last few years and we hope that he continues to impress. He kept brilliantly against Essex in a second team one-day game this year and it is this level of performance that he will need to repeat. We are very lucky to have two quality young keepers in Sam and Paul Dixey as back up to Geraint Jones.”
