DBD: We adapted well

Kent opener Daniel Bell-Drummond believes his form is peaking at the right time as he finished the third top-scorer in the West Indies Super50 competition.

The Spitfires’ most prolific batsman averaged 38.75 on the FGS Plant Tour and felt the team had a point to prove after struggling to adapt to the tricky Caribbean conditions in 2017.

After winning six of eight group games before going out to champions Barbados in a rain-reduced semi-final, Kent’s number 23 said: “All in all, we can hold our heads high as we struggled a bit last year but we showed a much better account of ourselves going into the 2018 county season.

“Personally, I was quite happy with my form. I wanted to prove I could score runs out there and I was able to do that. You can always be more consistent but it’s a testament to how myself and the other batters adapted to the pitches which weren’t the easiest to play on.

“The overall scores showed that but there’s a lot to take from our performances going forward although it was a disappointing way to go out with the Duckworth-Lewis situation.”

The Kent Cricket Academy graduate won’t get much of a rest before he returns to the Caribbean next month for the North-South 50-over series and the MCC Champion County match where he will skipper a star-studded side against Essex in a four-day pink-ball fixture.
