Beaumont & Marsh star in England ODI win

Kent duo Tammy Beaumont and Laura Marsh impressed in England’s opening Royal London ODI win against New Zealand at Headingley.

Beaumont hit a watchful 40 off 67 to see off the new ball in an opening stand of 111 with Amy Jones (63) before Sarah Taylor (26), Heather Knight (63), Nat Sciver (37) and Katherine Brunt (30) all made fluent contributions.

Chasing 291 to win, the White Ferns started well through former Kent all-rounder Suzie Bates (28) and Sophie Devine (33) who added 70 for the opening wicket before losing four wickets for five runs in 16 balls.

Georgia Elwiss (2/16) removed Devine and Amy Satterthwaite in successive overs either side of Sciver (3/18) dismissing Bates and Katie Martin in the same over.

Teenager Amelia Kerr, fresh from a world record 232* against Ireland, was Sciver’s third victim before Ecclestone (1/33) sent Maddy Green back to the pavilion.

Kent off-spinner Marsh took 3/24 in seven overs, trapped Jess Watkin LBW for her first wicket before removing Leigh Kasparek leg-before and bowling Lea Tahuhu in successive overs as the tourists were dismissed for 148 in 35.3 overs.
