Kent Spitfires v Sussex Sharks (Fri, 7pm)

Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is set to make his Kent debut in the Vitality Blast on Friday (27 July) at The Spitfire Ground against Sussex, six years since playing for the club’s second XI.

The hard-hitting, seam-bowling all-rounder has signed for the rest of the T20 season and is glad to be back in familiar surroundings.

Stoinis said: “It’s good to be back after six years away and I’m surprised how familiar it feels. I played with Ivan Thomas and Sam Billings so it’s good to see them again.

“Back then, I was between contracts with Western Australia and Victoria and played some good cricket here and things started moving from there.

“It helped shape me as a cricketer and a person. I remember travelling around the country by train to bowl in the nets at Australia A, play club cricket in Northants and then come here to play second XI matches.

“I was very keen to come over again and had a couple of offers but Kent is familiar for me and I’ve stayed in touch with Sam since my time here and become good mates.

“It’s good timing to understand the grounds and the conditions over here before next year’s World Cup.”

The 28-year-old is hoping to contribute with bat and ball during his stint in county cricket.

“I just love being in the game. I want to bowl, bat and field. I want to bowl my four overs, take wickets and change the game for the team.

“That’s the beauty of being an all-rounder. You’re under the pump but it gives you a chance to get involved in the game.”

England T20 paceman Tymal Mills returns for the visitors’ 15-man squad with New Zealand’s Tom Bruce and Afghan spinner Rashid Khan the overseas players for the Sharks.
