Kent League Round-Up: Wickets for Stewart and Klaassen

A devastating spell of opening bowling by Kent pacemen Grant Stewart and Fred Klaassen, playing for Sandwich in the Kent League Premier Division at the weekend, destroyed  HSBC London who were skittled out for just 48 runs in 22.3 overs.

Stewart took four for 19 in 10 overs and Klaassen 2 for 20 and there was an even more spectacular performance from youngster Alex Smith who took four wickets for eight runs in 3.3 overs after the Kent pair had done the initial damage.  It took Sandwich just five overs to knock off the runs required for a 10 wicket victory ending on 51 for 0.

A brilliant century by Bexley’s Scottish international Callum MacLeod (106) with 12 boundaries saw his side reach 232 all out against Tunbridge Wells. MacLeod and Scottish counterpart Matt Cross (46) put on a century partnership for the third wicket and former Kent all-rounder Adam Ball hit 27. Kent Second X1 player Marcus O Riordan took three for 43 for the visitors. Tunbridge Wells were bowled out for 164 in 44.3 overs to give Bexley, captained by Kent spinner Adam Riley, victory by 68 runs.

Three Kent Academy scholars, Isaac Dilkes, Joe Gordon and Tom Davis were in the Canterbury side beaten by three wickets away at  Lordswood. Gordon scored 55 in their total of 232 all out. Lordswood finished on 236 for 7.

Last seasons champions Blackheath gained their first win of the campaign thrashing Sevenoaks Vine, who included Kent wicket-keeper Adam Rouse in their side, by 112 runs, whilst Kent’s Alec Blake hit a sparkling 142 not out with four sixes and 10 fours for Beckenham as they beat Bickley Park with three balls to spare.
