Match Preview: Surrey vs. Kent
Kent travel to the Kia Oval to take on fierce rivals Surrey in the Specsavers County Championship from Sunday 7th July.
The tie is another big game for the visitors as safety in Division One remains a priority. Kent are currently fifth in the table on 81 points after a draw with Warwickshire earlier in the week.
Daniel Bell-Drummond scored a career-best County Championship score of 166 runs, and Sean Dickson hit 161 in a one-innings a side four-day draw at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence.
Surrey are currently sixth in the league, one point below Kent with 80 points after a 123-run defeat to Yorkshire this week.
Mark Stoneman is currently Surrey’s highest Championship run scorer, with 521 in 15 innings at an average of 34.73. He sits seventh in the tournament’s run charts, one place and 17 runs behind Kent’s Bell-Drummond.
Surrey’s highest wicket taker so far is Morne Morkel, with 32 in 14 innings at 26.25. The kolpak player featured for Kent as an overseas in the Twenty20 Cup in 2007, a tournament that the Spitfires went on to win that year after Morkel had finished his stint at the home county.
Wiaan Mulder will not feature for Kent again this season after he was recalled by Cricket South Africa earlier this week.
