Charlotte Edwards wins on Perth Scorchers WBBL debut

Kent captain Charlotte Edwards was on the winning side as Perth Scorchers won their opening match in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League.

The Scorchers set Brisbane Heat a target of 107 to win with the Kent and England skipper scoring 18 off 17 balls as the top order all made starts before being dismissed.

Her England colleague Katherine Brunt struck twice in the first over to reduce the Heat to 3-2 and picked up another two wickets at the death in a fine spell of 4/17 off four overs to win player of the match.

Brisbane fell just three runs short of the victory target with England’s Kate Cross hitting an unbeaten 17 off 13 balls before Brunt ran out number 11 Holly Ferling to secure a tense two-run win.

Next up for Charlotte Edwards and the Scorchers is a match against Kent colleague Laura Marsh's side Sydney Sixers on Saturday, who also feature Kent's 2015 overseas player Kara Sutherland.
