Blake: Great to be back at Beckenham

Beckenham batsman Alex Blake cannot wait to play in front of a home crowd in the NatWest T20 Blast opener on Sunday at The County Ground.

He hit a six in the Copers Cope Stand to seal a last-over win in the One-Day Cup last season and is looking forward to playing close to home.

The powerful left-hander said: “It means quite a bit. A lot of family and friends will be here and it’s nice to impress people you’ve grown up playing with and against.

“I like playing at the ground as it tends to be a good wicket with pace in it so you can play your shots.

“Hopefully I can carry on from where I left off here last year against Surrey in the one-dayer.

“I love T20 cricket as playing in a positive manner brings out the best in me and I know my role.”

Blake is mightily impressed with the Spitfires’ New Zealand recruits as Adam Milne and Jimmy Neesham join the squad.

The 28-year-old said: “I’ve had the privilege of playing and training with them this week and to see them first hand, it’s really exciting.

“They’re both going to add a lot to our attack: Milney bowls a quick ball and Jimmy isn’t the slowest and both offer with the bat and in the field.

“We’re hoping they’re the missing pieces of the jigsaw this year. The depth we have in our batting encourages us to go out and play with no fear as we bat a long way down.”
