Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League, week 10 review

League leaders Beckenham won at Tenterden to maintain their advantage at the top of the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League.

Chris Vernon hit 107 and Linden Lockhart scored 51 in a total of 232-7 for the hosts after winning the toss on a two-paced pitch.

In reply, Chris Iles hit 45 in Beckenham’s opening stand of 75 and Kent scholar Ollie Robinson scored 35 fresh from his England Under-19 call-up.

Johan Malcolm’s unbeaten 77 sealed a five-wicket win in the absence of Alex Blake who is preparing for Kent’s NatWest T20 Blast season.

Kent Cricket Academy scholar Jan Gray took two catches, claimed a run out and 1/30 in a tidy ten-over spell as Sandwich dismissed winless newcomers Holmesdale for 204.

Second XI regular Grant Stewart took 1/41 before scoring 74 off 70 balls as Sandwich chased the target with 18.4 overs to spare.

Kent seamer Hugh Bernard took 2/58 as Lordswood beat Sevenoaks Vine.

Oliver Howick hit 159 of Vine’s 236 total with only one other batsman reaching double figures after winning the toss.

Lordswood timed their chase well reaching the target with four balls and five wickets to spare.

Second-placed Bexley beat Tunbridge Wells in a low-scoring affair at The Nevill to keep the pressure on leaders Beckenham.

The visitors scored 181 after being invited to bat and Harry Furze smashed 50 including a 76-run stand for the ninth wicket with Michael Stevenson (26).

Former academy scholar Marcus O’Riordan and Chris Lawrence picked up 3 wickets each for Wells.

In reply, the hosts were bundled out for 165.

Centuries from Tanweer Sikandar (111) and Richard Fleming (101*) fired Blackheath to 374-7 against 2016 champions Hartley Country Club at The Rectory Field.

Richard Selvey-Clinton reached three figures in reply but the visitors could not keep up with the run rate and fell 94 runs short.
