Charlotte Edwards leads by example in World T20 opener

Kent captain Charlotte Edwards led by example as England won their opening World T20 match against Bangladesh in Bangalore.

The experienced opener picked up the player of the match award as she hit seven boundaries in a score of 60 off 51 balls after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Kent’s player of 2015 Tammy Beaumont scored 18 off 14 balls to get England off to a good start with Nat Sciver, Danni Wyatt and Katherine Brunt all scoring at more than a run-a-ball as England set Bangladesh a victory target of 153.

Edwards was never far from the action with a catch off Anya Shrubsole claimed the wicket of Ayasha Rahman before a fine run-out to remove Rumana Ahmed made it 46-4.

Kent colleague Lydia Greenway took a catch off Jenny Gunn as England won by 36 runs.

England women are next in action on Tuesday against hosts India at Dharamsala (10am GMT) before facing West Indies at the same ground on Thursday (2pm GMT) and Pakistan at Chennai next Sunday (27 March, 3pm BST).
