Bexley are Regional Champions for 2023

Wednesday 6th September 2023

Bexley Girls have recently become Regional Club Champions as they competed at Raynes Park in Surrey on the recent August Bank Holiday representing Kent and the South East Stars.

The Regional Club Competition covers three age groups of girls and five counties, with each of the playoff winners progressing to compete in the Finals. Bexley had representatives at all three age groups (U11/13/15) but it was their Under 11’s who came out on top. In the Under 11 competition, Old Wimbledonians (Surrey), Ealing (Middlesex), Burgess Hill (Sussex), Bexley (Kent) and Woodford Wells (Essex) all represented their counties on a wonderful day for cricket.

Each team in their group proved why they had made it to Finals Day, competing fiercely and showing some great cricketing skills. As the day progressed and the girls got into the swing of things, the standard of cricket improved and there was some awesome batting on display, countered by some precise bowling, a mixture of pace and spin.

Each team showed great spirit and high energy from start to finish and it was the last two matches of the day that ended up deciding the final positions. Bexley (Kent) and Ealing (Middlesex) were pitted against each other to see who would finish first to be Regional Club Champions. It was an energetic, lively game with cheering on and off the pitch, wickets were being taken and huge shots played. In the end it came down to the final ball, with Ealing failing to score the required 4 runs and Bexley being crowned U11 Champions, cue wild celebrations…

Final Positions:

  1. Bexley CC
  2. Ealing CC
  3. Burgess Hill
  4. Woodford Wells
  5. Old Wimbledonians

This year’s champions from Kent were a well drilled and deserving side, who show a lot of potential for the future. Congratulations to all the teams for showcasing the high playing standards of cricket, the future of women’s and girls’ club cricket is certainly bright.
