Fantastic Final In Inaugural Bromley Primary Schools Cricket Championship

In 2022, after a number of successful years, the Bromley Primary Schools League came to an end.
This wonderful home-grown tournament, open to all primary schools in the borough, was the result of the energy and commitment of Dustin Carere, Deputy Head at St. Nicholas CE Primary School in Chislehurst and it provided invaluable opportunities for competitive primary-age cricket to be played across Bromley.

When Dustin decided to hang up his organising hat at the close of play last summer, the Kent Community Cricket Team committed to keep a competition running and we were very lucky to be immediately supported by Eltham College who offered to work in partnership with us to make it happen.

As a result of these efforts, last week saw the culmination of the league’s successor, the Bromley Primary Schools Cricket Championship!
Run initially as a group-stage format, the Championship then saw qualifying teams going head-to-head in a brilliant finals day which took place on the 16th June at the Eltham College Meadow ground.
In this beautiful setting, the day’s round-robin games were played on a league-quality pitch thanks to the incredible work of the Eltham grounds team.
Being very gracious hosts, Eltham also provided refreshments, cookies, students to umpire and score the games and fantastic coaching sessions for the teams when they were not playing!

The three finalists who came through from the group stages were Southborough, St Marks CE and Balgowan primaries and over three games, they showcased a first-rate display of U11s cricket.
Not only was it was great to see high quality and competitive games being played, the obvious enjoyment of the players and the number of smiles throughout the day bore witness to a successful competition.

Fittingly, the Championship went down to the last ball of the last over which saw Balgowan beating Southborough by just 6 runs and we were very honoured to have the cup and the medals presented by the Head of Eltham College, Guy Sanderson.

Our sincere thanks go to Mr. Sanderson, to all the competing teams, the teachers, parents and guardians who made it possible for them to play and to the team at Eltham College.

Lastly, but by no mean least – congratulations to Balgowan, the 2023 BPSCC winners!
